3. Start learning
To prepare for the duties of veterinary technician in New York, the curricula at vet-tech schools must include classes that focus on small animal disease, anatomy, farm animal restraint, ethics, lab animal science, animal nutrition and veterinary practice management. 4. Apply for a license

New York vet-tech license applicants must prove legal residency in the U.S, either by proof of natural citizenship or by lawful permanent residence. The applicants must also prove to be of ‘good moral character’ by submitting to a criminal background check.
Applicants must also graduate from a 2-year program in veterinary technology that is registered by New York-State Education Department or accredited by AVMA committee of veterinary technician education and activities.
Technicians in New York are required to pass the Veterinary Technicians National-Examination. Students attending the last 6 months of a vet-tech program accredited by AVMA or registered by New York State Education-Department can be allowed to register for VTNE before graduation. As for other students, they must graduate before taking the exams.
Applicants are required to submit a completed licensing application at least 60 days before taking the exams. The application must also include the licensing fee of about $177 (check or money order) and the student’s transcripts. The transcripts must be sent to New York State-Department of Education directly from the school.
Out of state applicants may be issued a license is they fulfill all the New York state education requirements. The applicants must also have passed a licensing exam equivalent to New-York state licensing examination. The applicants must also have been licensed in another state/area of U.S while practicing a minimum of 2 years full time after receiving their initial license.

The school offers a vet-tech program designed to provide students with extensive core information in theory and principles of veterinary science. The program has full accreditation status as granted by AVMA and VTNE.
